Private Nursery Chosen to Redevelop Brent Lodge Stables
Grade 2 listed building had been placed on the 'at risk' register
A local nursery has been chosen to redevelop the 19th century Grade II listed Brent Lodge Stables.
Bunny Park nursery, which wants to expand, has agreed to restore and refurbish the stables over two years at a cost of more than £320,000. The grounds will also be landscaped to provide a garden and play area suitable for children.
It will get a 40 year lease on the property.
Ealing council say the nursery was chosen over and above other bids because it offered to retain the entire building for local use.
Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure, said: “The council is determined to find a way to preserve Brent Lodge Stables’ future and keep it, as much as possible, for the benefit of the community.
“The plans from Bunny Park Nursery will both restore and respect the stables’ historic features and sustain its usefulness to the community in the long-term. I am delighted that we have a real win-win here by maintaining an important historic building and bringing in a great new facility to the park, which will support local families.”
Alina Balysz, owner of the Bunny Park Nursery, said: “After many years of visiting the park and observing the stables we had a vision that the building would be an excellent venue for a children’s nursery. The environment of the park and animal centre provides an ideal place for children to learn and develop.
“We are all very excited to be given the opportunity to provide such a much needed service to the community.”
The Stables in Brent Lodge Park was built in the early 19th century and is a grade II listed building in a conservation area. Its poor condition and state of repair has seen it placed on the ‘at risk’ register by English Heritage.
In January 2014, the council decided to invite bidders to redevelop the site because it could not financially commit to restoring the building.
