An Ealing Councillor is cycling from York to London over four days to raise funds for The Log Cabin.

Last year cycling fanatic, Bassam Mahfouz, raised £1432 for a pancreatic cancer charity in memory of his mum.

The challenge for the environment and transport cabinet member this year will support the work of Northfields based Log Cabin - helping youngsters with special needs.

Cllr Mahfouz was Chair of Governors at Mandeville School for 10 years and got to know all about their work.

He says: '' Every parent I met whilst at Mandeville could not speak highly enough about the role of Log Cabin in their lives and so please, please, please do something amazing and donate to help this charity supporting children with the most severe special needs make an awesome and vital difference to their lives.''

He will be taking on the 500km on the 30th July.

The first three days of cycling will replicate 3 legs of last year's Tour de France, starting off in York and going through Sheffield, Cambridge and then down to London before doing the brutal 100 mile Ride London.

He'll be celebrating his 35th birthday and says : ''Why on earth?! Well, some people enjoy a mid-life crisis with a new sports car or a new job; I wanted to raise some serious money for an amazing charity.''
