An Ealing Councillor has faced one of his toughest challenges to date cycling 100km in the Chiltern Hills.

Northolt Councillor, Bassam Mahfouz, is raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK - in memory of his mother Enaam... who died ten years ago from the disease.

He says his mum was a ' fun, positive, and passionate woman' who loved the great outdoors and he felt it a fitting tribute to do something positive to mark her anniversary.

He says: '' They say that the brightest candle burns the fastest and in my mother’s case our worlds have been made all the better for having had her shine through it.  She showed what you can achieve with love, determination and good humour (well also a great mind and good looks!).  Throughout it all, she was the greatest mum any person could have ever asked for, we miss her dearly.

''My mum loved being outside and enjoying all that nature had to offer and to mark this anniversary, I have decided to cycle a gruelling 100km ride through the scenic but hilly Chilterns on Sunday 5th October.

Pancreatic cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death in the UK but the amount spent on research is only one per cent of the total cancer research spend.
