A man's died following a fire at a flat in Northolt.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers from Southall, Northolt, and Hillingdon fire stations attended the incident at Ballinger Way at 2032 last night.

A man was rescued from the scene and taken to hospital, where he later died.

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service NHS Trust said:

''We were called at 8.36 to Ballinger Way for reports of fire. We sent ambulance crew -- 3 single responders in cars and a hazardous area response team. There was 1 patient - a man at the scene who was in cardiac arrest - staff made extensive efforts to resuscitate him, at the scene and on the way to Ealing Hospital.''

All firefighters were reported to return safe and the fire was controlled.

The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation is underway.
