New Application Made for Azalea Court Height Increase | ||||
Objectors say residents' concerns have not been addressed in new design
A new proposal to raise the height of a residential building by the Hanwell Conservation Area has failed to win over some of the objectors to previous schemes. The latest planning application submitted to Ealing Council to add floors to properties in the Azalea Court development is for the increase by a single floor of one building. Previous plans had been one additional storey to Azalea Court and for two storeys on Azalea Close. The new scheme is for nine flats on the extra floor, of which 8 are one bed and one two bed with provision of associated cycle storage, refuse and recycling storage. This has not addressed the concerns raised by earlier designs according to residents. People living in the development as well as Nightingale Road, Shirley Gardens, Camelia Court and Gardenia Court along with others along the Uxbridge Road are expected to be affected along with users of the Hanwell Cemetery which is directly behind Azalea Court.
Objectors say that the designs still present a threat to the conservation area that directly backs on to Azalea Court and also threatens the designations in place to grade 2 listed monuments, cemetery and park gardens themselves. Concerns have also been raised about parking and congestion issues. One local resident said, “The development does not serve the wider community as stipulated in Ealing Council’s planning strategy by providing any new social housing, just a need by the developer to line their pockets. As residents, we understand and the need for more housing however this proposal does not provide affordable housing or any social housing. This is pure moneymaking scheme on the part of the developer.” She is hopeful that once again, local ward councillors and MP Virendra Sharma as well as the Ealing Civic Society will add their objections to the scheme.
