Ealing Arts + Leisure (EAL) have been awarded £10,000 to draw up a business plan for a new creative hub in the town centre.

Campaigners want to see the Town Hall put to better use with proposals for an arts, dance and music studio, exhibition space, café, theatre and rehearsal area.

A council spokesman said: "The council is keen on exploring the idea of providing an arts and leisure facility in Ealing.

"We have allocated funding to Ealing Arts and Leisure to prepare a business case, which should outline what their proposals and aspirations are for the facility.

"We look forward to working with them in the near future and taking the project further."

Ann Pavett, Secretary of EAL, says the business plan is now being prepared and is hopeful things are moving in the right direction. She says:'' We are hoping to launch a petition in support of the Arts Centre so that we can demonstrate that thousands (hopefully) of people support this project.

''This is not a "political" move because all three parties have supported the project "in principle" - We just feel that such a  demonstration of public support will greatly help the case.''

It's is hoped that work could start by Spring 2011.
