With the country in lockdown and even local travel off the cards, an Ealing blogger has helped launch a new virtual travel website to transport people around the world from the comfort of their own armchairs.

Ealing mum-of-one and award-winning travel writer Cathy Winston (author of blog mummytravels.com) has set up new website ArmchairTravels.com along with four other professional travel writers.

The site’s content includes VR and virtual tours, 360-degree videos and live-streamed classes plus tours from around the world, alongside weekly news as more online travel content is released.

Pieces range from a virtual bucket list of some of the world’s iconic sites and experiences, to London museums and galleries, city guides, virtual beaches, family-friendly ideas and even virtual rollercoaster rides.

Armchair Travels also aims to offer inspiration after the current pandemic, for those planning future trips as well as to satisfy some wanderlust when you’re unable to travel for any reason.

“Through modern technology the virtual world is almost as extensive as the real one,” says Cathy. “From antiquities to activities, there are thousands of opportunities to get online, exploring and enjoying whatever interests you. And what’s more you don’t have to join a queue, pay a fee, or rack up carbon emissions.”

The site’s other co-founders are Ting Dalton, Gretta Schifano, Kirstie Pelling and Nichola West.
