Supermarket giant, Morrisons, says more than 300 jobs will be created in Ealing as part of the Arcadia refurbishment.

The company has announced it will be opening its doors - on the lower floor of the newly named 1-8 The Broadway W5 - in 2014, when the redevelopment is expected to be complete.

Morrisons’ 'Fresh Format' store is part of the retailers’ plans to step up its presence in London and the South. The company says it sees Ealing as an ideal location.

The new store will create 300 new full and part time jobs on top of the 20 created by the opening of the retailer’s Morrisons M Local on Uxbridge Road in February.

Richard Haynes, Development Executive at Morrisons, said:

“Morrisons’ new Fresh Format offer, with its expanded range, is perfectly suited we believe to Ealing’s residents and shoppers.  People in Ealing really care about how fresh their food is and where it comes from and our new Fresh Format store responds to that.

“We are delighted to be working with Benson Elliot to ensure that the 1-8 The Broadway remains an anchor for trade and footfall in the town centre.  We hope to bring forward an offer which complements existing shops and facilities, and also reflects the aspirations of the local community for the town centre.”

As well as a new Fresh Format store, Morrisons has recently opened a Morrisons M Local, its new brand of convenience store, on the corner of Broughton Road and Uxbridge Road.  This store is the first of its kind in London.

Morrisons is the UK’s fourth largest food retailer with 500 stores.
