You'd be forgiven for thinking these beautiful, colouful images were taken at a country show miles away from London - but no, believe it or not, these displays all came from St Mary's Church Hall in South Ealing.

Local photographer, Mark Kehoe, dropped in to the 2016 Ealing and Hanwell Allotment Show competition (10th September) and captured on camera the huge variety of produce - all grown locally.

The annual Autumn show is open to all allotment holders and residents (children included) and there are a large number of categories and classes of fruit, vegetables and flowers in competition.

Ealing and Hanwell Allotment Show Report 2016:

A big thank you to everyone who entered and made the show happen this year, also to our Mayor Councillor Dr Patricia Walker for joining us and giving out the prizes, the profits made from the raffle went to Acton Homeless Concern (the Mayors favoured charity). We were lucky to have the EBKA (Ealing Beekeepers) showing an exhibition hive and selling local honey plus the Transition Group sharing what they are doing for the community.

This year we had a total of 308 entries, which was down on last years 378. All categories were slightly down but mostly on fruit and flowers (this may have been due to the very wet weather early in the summer).

Hilary Jayne was our overall winner and swept the board with an amazing 27 first prizes, 16 second and 4 third (118 points), quite a feat! Hilary could not win the RHS Banksian medal this year as she won it last year and it cannot be won two consecutive years in a row so it went to Lynne and Nigel Sumner who gained 71 points and an array of cups. Sonia Pearce made 42 points and David Parsons 23 points.

The Blue Riband for Best in Show was won by Barbara Austin for her beautiful basket of mixed Vegetables.

In the junior section Daniel Venner won an amazing 8 firsts and Sennen Powell gained 3 firsts with Sennen’s seed tray garden winning the junior cup for the judges best exhibit in the junior section.

The show is organised by volunteers and paid for by the Ealing & Hanwell allotment association which is an allotment based trading association which sells seeds, compost etc to allotment holders, this is also run by volunteers.
