A controlled explosion was undertaken in Ealing this Saturday (19 February) when, what is believed to be a World War 2 shell, was uncovered.

The police say they were called to a commercial property on Carlton Road at around 4.21pm.

The bomb was dealt with by a specialist team and the area was cordoned off. It is believed that the device was taken to Ealing Common and the area was cleared while a small hole was dug in the grass. A loud explosion was heard shortly afterwards.

This is the second piece of ordnance from the Blitz to have been found in the Ealing area in less than a month A device was uncovered on Hanger Hill near St Augustine’s School towards the end of January requiring the North Circular to be closed for a short time.
