An Ealing primary school has become the first in London to achieve special recognition for the work of its governing body.

Mayfield Primary School, in Hanwell, has been awarded the Governor Mark status for its consistently high standard of governance.

As well as being the first school in the capital to receive this accolade and it is in the top 10 nationally.

Mayfield Primary’s Chair of Governors, David Scully, said: “The ethos of Mayfield Primary School is one of achievement and the governing body wanted our own practice to reflect this.

“We aim to work closely together and take advantage of the skills and expertise that each of us brings to the table. For example, a tri-lingual governor has helped us to build on our community links.

“We also have a positive, professional relationship with our head teacher, which is a vital ingredient for an effective governing body.”

Ealing Council’s Director of Schools Service, Rachael Seitz, said: “We congratulate the governors of Mayfield Primary School for their contribution to the school’s success and are delighted that their impact on the school has been recognised in this way. “

Governor Mark status is awarded by the Governance, Leadership and Management Partnership and is supported by the Department of Children, Schools and Families.
