An appeal has been made for witness and information relating to an arson attack on a newsagent that took place earlier this month.

Three people entered the premises of Hanwell News on Uxbridge Road on Monday 7 June at around 7.40pm and poured a flammable liquid and ignited it, whilst staff were still inside the premises.

The shop was badly damaged and two men were treated on scene for smoke inhalation and a man in his sixties was taken to hospital although he has since been discharged.

After starting the fire the trio then made off, towards Boston Road.

The suspects are described as being two white males and one Asian male, aged between 16-24 years old and they were all wearing masks.

An online fundraising campaign has been organised to support the owners of the shop and has so far raised £1,300.

DC Ashleigh Nelson, West Area CID said, “We are requesting the public’s assistance for more information about this incident. This was a terrifying ordeal as the staff were inside the shop, when the suspects started the fire.

If you know who was involved, I urge you to come forward with any information that you may have.”

Anyone that can help with information, please call us on 101, tweet @MetCC, quoting reference CAD 7038/07JUN.

Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or report information online at crimestoppers-uk.org.
