A man was rescued from a fire in West Ealing this Saturday (5 September) by fire fighters wearing breathing equipment.

He was retrieved from a one-room first floor flat above a shop on Leeland Road. The flat was destroyed by the blaze which four fire engines and around 25 firefighters attended.

The man was taken to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation. Another man left the premises before the Fire Brigade arrived. He was also taken to hospital also due the effects of the smoke.

The Brigade was called at 10.44pm and the fire was under control just over an hour later. Fire crews from Ealing, Acton and Southall fire stations helped tackle the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
