Dormers Wells Safer Neighbourhood Team are filming known robbery offenders in a bid to combat crime on their ward.

Overt filming means the capture of both still and video images of known suspects. This provides details of their clothing and locations throughout the day.  By doing this should any crime be committed by them in the area the offender will be easily identified by their descriptions and arrested.

Police believe this initiative of filming suspects will prevent robberies from taking place in the Dormers Wells area as suspects will know that they have footage of them and their description including the time and place of their locations.

Officers will be filming known suspects whilst out on patrol from the 22nd November 2010.

Southall Safer Neighbourhood Inspector Rob Bryan said:

"We are committed to reducing crime in the area, particularly violent crimes such as robbery. The Dormers Wells Safer Neighbourhoods Team will be using video capture to discourage those likely to commit offences. If you do see anyone acting suspiciously please call the police on 0300 123 1212 if it is an emergency always dial 999"

Police tips on how to stay safe:

    • Keep valuables out of sight
    • Think before using a mobile
    • Look confident
    • Plan your journey
    • Preferably use well-lit busy routes
    • Carry a personal alarm
    • Try to avoid wearing headphones - your ability to hear traffic, strangers or potential trouble is severely restricted.
