The Samrat restaurant on Pitshanger Lane could now claim to be ‘By Royal Appointment’ after receiving an order from Kensington Palace.

Prince William chose the Ealing curry house knowing it was the favourite of his guest Peter Crouch who was interviewing him on BBC’s ‘That Peter Crouch podcast’.

Before lockdown Peter and his colleagues had been invited along to chat to the Prince, who is President of the FA, about football and his mental health charity ‘Heads Up’.

Just after they sat down they were surprised to hear a knock on the door which Prince William answered and then brought them over a tray of poppadoms.

Peter Crouch, grew up nearby the Samrat, and has been eating there since he was a child and constantly namechecks it on his podcast.

The Prince joked that the delivery driver was probably on the floor outside being frisked but that didn’t stop him leaving a leaflet just in case William wanted to order through them again.

His Royal Highness said that he was partial to chicken murgh masala but his guest prefers a Madras. The prince did like the food but expressed some reservations about the restaurant's name.

The England footballer’s parents are also regulars at the restaurant but Crouchy complained on BBC breakfast they still don’t get anything knocked off their bill despite all the free publicity he gives them.

The interview at the palace was recorded before lockdown but has only just now been broadcast. It is available through BBC Sounds.
