Dharmapragasam Inthiraraj found to have behaved in a 'predatory manner'
January 16, 2024 A doctor working as a locum at a Southall health centre is set to be struck off after a tribunal upheld a number of complaints against him. 63-year-old Dharmapragasam Inthiraraj was working at the Woodbridge Medical Centre in 2018 when two of his female patients accused him of behaving in a ‘predatory manner’. The complaints were detailed in a series of hearings at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service which culminated in the head of the misconduct panel, Julia Oakford, ruling that the allegations were true. Inthiraraj was found to have conducted an unnecessary intimate examination of a female patient and told her to ‘enjoy it’ when she protested. He also messaged a domestic abuse victim in an inappropriate manner having obtained her phone number from medical records. The panel determined that his pattern of inappropriate behaviour towards vulnerable women was aimed at forming a sexual relationship with them. Inthiraraj’s solicitor told the panel that his behaviour towards the domestic abuse victim had been "unboundaried" and he regretted this but that he was previously of good character. He denied the other accusation against him. In her final ruling Ms Oakford said, "Dr Inthiraraj, in behaving in the manner he did, showed a blatant disregard for patients and put his own interests above the need of his patients. "The Tribunal viewed this as a serious abuse of the position of trust held by a doctor." He has been immediately suspended and will be struck off unless he makes an appeal against the tribunal finding within 28 days.
