Man arrested after killing in alleyway off Church Gardens
A 21-year-old woman has been stabbed to death in an alleyway in South Ealing this Tuesday morning (17 May). The emergency services were called to the scene just after midnight including a helicopter from London’s Air Ambulance but, despite the efforts of paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The police say the incident occurred in an alleyway off Church Gardens and it is understood the woman’s body was found in Robert’s Alley. A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The police say they are confident that they know the identity of the victim and are making efforts to inform her next of kin. The Ealing Common Safer Neighbourhoods team alerted the headteacher of Grange Primary school about increased levels of drug dealing in Robert’s Alley and the Churchyard two years ago and parents were reminded to alert older children travelling alone to possible dangers including from discarded silver gas canisters. No connection has been made by the police at this stage between the stabbing and drug dealing in the area.
Parents at Grange Primary School received a message this Tuesday morning notifying them that the school was closed for the day. A crime scene remains in place in the vicinity of St. Mary’s Church. West Area BCU Commander Sean Wilson who is responsible for policing in Ealing said, “This is a truly shocking incident which will understandably cause significant concern among the local community and Londoners as a whole. “Violence of any kind, but particularly against women and girls, has a profound impact on communities and this will understandably impact on the confidence of those in the area going about their daily business. “I want to reassure the Ealing community that a team of specialist homicide detectives have commenced an investigation and they will use their skills and experience to ensure that whoever is responsible is brought to justice. “My local officers will also be in and around the area in South Ealing; if you have any concerns I would encourage you to approach them and speak to them. You can also speak to your local neighbourhood policing team or dial 101.” Anyone with information about the incident should call 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD 77/17May.
