A second person has been arrested by officers investigating the stabbing to death of 16-year-old Rishmeet Singh.

A 17-year-old boy was detained on Thursday, 2 December on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

The 19-year-old man arrested on Tuesday has now been bailed to appear at a date in late December.

Rishmeet’s family have been updated on this latest development and continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

Rishmeet died after being stabbed on Wednesday 24 November on Raleigh Road, which is just south of the Grand Union Canal, at 9:07pm.

Police say they were called to the scene after reports of a fight and found the teenager with stab wounds. He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene shortly afterwards.

Rishmeet worked part-time jobs to help care for his disabled mother, who lives above a shop near to where her son was killed.

Friends of Rishmeet have claimed that the stabbing was a result of a dispute over a fake Gucci bag which others were trying to take from him.

The investigation is being carried out by homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime led by Detective Chief Inspector James Shirley.

DCI Shirley said, “My thoughts continue to be with Rishmeet’s family and friends following this development in our investigation.

"While one man remains in custody, we still need anyone who has any information about the events that led up to Rishmeet’s death to come forward and speak to us.”

Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to call the incident room on 0208 721 4266 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD 7400/24NOV. Alternatively, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
