Woman Who Committed Bigamy at Ealing Town Hall Spared Jail | ||||
Brinda Kantamaneni hid pregnancy from her husband
A 42-year-old woman has been spared jail despite being found guilty of bigamy. Brinda Kantamaneni was living in Ealing with her husband Ravi and two children but was unhappy in her arranged marriage. She started a relationship with 45-year-old Matthew Hall who lived nearby and became pregnant by him. She managed to give birth without her husband ever suspecting she was pregnant using a false name on the child’s birth certificate. The couple married in Ealing Town Hall despite the previous marriage still being valid. When her family found out what had happened the matter was reported to the police. Brinda Kantamaneni, who runs a computer consultancy firm, was convicted of bigamy earlier this year but at her sentencing hearing the judge gave her a non-custodial sentence saying that she had been emotionally abused and manipulated by family members who refused to allow her to divorce. Bigamy can lead to a jail sentence of seven years but a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement with no custodial time was the sentence given. Brinda Kantamaneni has since moved to Guildford with the five-year-old child she had with Matthew Hall but is not allowed to see the two children she had from her previous marriage which was dissolved in 2019.
