If the Ealing Half Marathon is not enough for you or you prefer not to run with lots of other people you can now join the London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust’s (LNWH) virtual race against dementia.

You can run or walk 13.1 miles in one go or in stages throughout the month in support of the hospital charity.

Money raised will support several hospital projects including more facilities for dementia patients who are a rapidly increasing demographic with nearly 9,000 people affected by the condition in Brent, Ealing and Harrow. This is projected to rise to more than 12,000 by 2030.

More than a quarter of the trust’s hospital beds are occupied by dementia patients and one of the projects will be transforming the décor of its elderly care day rooms into settings reminiscent of the 1940s-60s to help put dementia patients at ease.

David Jenkins, Joint Director of Charities at Hillingdon and London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, said, “LNWH charity is absolutely delighted to be hosting its first half marathon and this fundraising event is a fantastic way for people to come together for such worthy causes.”

“I would urge people to take up the challenge and support us in our efforts to help patients and our dedicated staff to care and work even more effectively.”

All virtual half marathon participants are asked to pay a minimum entry fee of £10 which includes an event T-shirt. Everyone who completes the 13.1 mile distance and raises money will receive a medal for their efforts.

Those wishing to take part in the race can follow updates on the Facebook and Twitter accounts for the LNWH charity (#LNWHCHARITYCHALLENGE).

You can register for the race via lnwh-tr.charitychallenge@nhs.net.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
