Four St Benedict’s School pupils from Year 9, accompanied by Housemistress Gillian Comyn, visited Meadow House Hospice in Southall to present a cheque for £433.

This was the sum raised by Roberts House during their summer term charity event, selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts and other goodies.

Alex Vangelatos, Rory Hobson, Hallam Child and Felix Piercy were very warmly received and were given a tour of the hospice as well as hearing about all the wonderful work the staff do.

What most struck the pupils was the happy and relaxed atmosphere in the ‘day area’ where the ‘drop-in’ patients were sitting around chatting, reading, knitting and finishing a complicated jigsaw. Over a cup of tea, the pupils were hugely entertained by some of the day patients who couldn’t speak highly enough of the hospice staff. “They keep you alive”, one woman said.

“You have brought us more than money”, said Helen Cox, who was the hospice staff member in charge of welcoming the pupils. All were agreed that the visit had been a great success, which will hopefully be repeated in the future.
