Police are appealing for witnesses after a 68-year-old pedestrian was killed in a collision with a van in Southall, just three days after a 17-year-old died in another collision in the area.

Emergency services were called to Emerald Square at approximately 1.38pm on Tuesday, 22 September following reports of a collision between a van and a pedestrian.

Police attended along with the London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and London’s Air Ambulance, but despite the efforts of emergency services the man died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while disqualified. He has since been released on bail pending further investigation. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances of the collision. The death follows another fatal collision in Southall only three days earlier.

In the early hours of Saturday, 19 September, 17-year-old Ranbir Singh died following a collision involving a Ford Mustang on South Road. He was a passenger in the vehicle and died at the scene. A 26-year-old man, also a passenger, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. A 20-year-old man was subsequently charged in connection with that collision, including with causing death by dangerous driving. He appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Monday, 21 September and was due to appear at the Old Bailey on 19 October.

Detective Inspector Fiaz Janjua, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, described the Emerald Square death as a "tragic incident" and said officers were working to establish the full circumstances. Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the Emerald Square collision or who was in the area and may have CCTV, dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell footage. Anyone with information about the Emerald Square collision should contact police on 101, quoting reference 01/8094116/26.
