Great Western Railway (GWR) and TfL Rail services were suspended this Tuesday evening (28 May) after a woman was seen close to the tracks near Hanwell Viaduct.

What was initially described as a ‘trespass’ on the line between Hanwell and West Ealing led to trains no longer being able to run.

A call was made to 999 expressing concerns about the well being of the woman.

A substantial number of emergency services vehicles attended the scene including police, Fire Brigade, ambulance service and a National Police Air Service helicopter.

Rail services resumed later that evening having been blocked between Paddington and Slough for around two hours and there were substantial delays during the rush hour leaving passengers stranded at Paddington station.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police (BTP) said, "BTP officers received a call at 4.07pm on 28 May following concerns for the welfare of a woman on a railway viaduct in the Hanwell area. Officers attended alongside paramedics and the woman was taken to a place of safety."
