Diabetes UK are looking for enthusiastic volunteers in the borough of Ealing to help collect money at local Tesco stores.

Volunteers are needed to support the Big Collection weekend taking place on 4, 5 and 6 October 2013. The local store involved is the Greenford Metro. There are also many other stores across London.

In the borough of Ealing there are 20,427 people living with diabetes according to figures from the local PCT. Worryingly, Diabetes UK estimates that there are a further 1,462 people with Type 2 diabetes who have not been diagnosed.

The Big Collection weekend aims to raise £400,000 to support people living with diabetes in the UK and help find those who need to be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible.

The weekend is being organised as part of a major national charity partnership between Diabetes UK and Tesco. The partnership aims to support the millions of people who have to live with diabetes every day; help hundreds of thousands of people take action to reduce their risk of Type 2 diabetes; and fund investment into ground-breaking research for a Type 1 vaccine.

Volunteers can choose from various three-hour shifts, running from 9am until 6pm on 4 and 5 October and 10am till 4pm on 6 October.

The Big Collection weekend in Tesco stores is a great way to inform customers about diabetes while raising money for Diabetes UK. But it is only possible with the support of people who give up their time – volunteers will be making a real difference to people with diabetes or those at risk of developing it.

If you are interested in volunteering for the Big Collection weekend please contact Premal or Caroline on 020 7424 1000 or email bigcollection@diabetes.org.uk.
